Six Backsplash Ideas to Instantly Elevate Your Kitchen or Bathroom

Dark blue backsplash tile in a modern bathroom

I’ve been thinking a lot about backsplash lately. Maybe it’s because of our snazzy new visualizer and the fact that I would love to trade our gray subway tile backsplash in our kitchen for a bold, modern blue or green tile.

Thus sparked the idea to write a blog post about backsplash that will take your space from “meh” to “Wow!” At Floor Store & More, we always say that flooring and tile set the tone for your entire space and it’s so true.

So, without further ado, here are 6 Backsplash Ideas that are guaranteed to make your space feel more sophisticated and more YOU.

1. Be Bold

Whether you’re into 3D designs, geometric shapes, or mosaic patterns, incorporating a pop of personality makes all the difference in your space. Smaller areas like a shower or behind a stove or sink, are perfect places to accentuate a color or pattern that you wouldn’t necessarily use in the entire room. Don’t be afraid to go bold with a pattern or design that brings you joy!

2. Choose a Unique Layout

Classic rectangular tile offers a simplicity that works well for a large space, but rather than the typical brick pattern, consider putting a modern spin on it by having it laid in a herringbone, vertical stack, or offset pattern.

My personal favorite is the vertical stack, which is trending right now in many new restaurants and cutting-edge design projects.

3. Incorporate Natural Stone

Nothing beats the beauty of nature. Marble, travertine, and slate tile add texture and a sophisticated style to kitchens and bathrooms. Natural stone is ideal for both homeowners and business owners looking to create a high-end, spa-like atmosphere in their space.

4. Mix Materials for a Custom Look

I’ve heard it said by interior designers that you don’t want to buy matching furniture sets because it doesn’t achieve that curated, custom look that many people strive for in their homes. The same goes for flooring and tile.

Builder’s grade surfaces work as a blank canvas, but adding a combination of colors and textures with higher quality materials will tremendously elevate your space (both in style and quality)!

5. Unify Your Space with Thoughtful Accents

Do you have a piece of art that you can't live without? A throw pillow that ties the whole room together? A coffee table book that perfectly embodies your home aesthetic? Bring it to your design consultation!

Our team will take your unique style and personality into account when we curate flooring and tile options that complement your home or business.

When choosing backsplash, try to tie in shades from your overall color scheme to create a cohesive look throughout the space.

6. Keep It Simple

Most of us care as much about how our space looks as we do about what this will mean for our everyday life. Unless you have a maid (which if you do, that’s amazing and I am jealous), you are going to be the one cleaning this tile and backsplash regularly, so you need selections that will be stain-resistant, durable, and easy to clean.

That is where Floor Store & More comes in. Our in-store experts can guide you to options that will uniquely fit your lifestyle as well as your taste. Our porcelain and ceramic tiles resist stains, are easy to clean, and will stand the test of time.
